What do I do after I get my trophy?
Welcome to Growling Bear’s Den. Thanks for stopping by on your way to the woods. My name is Steven Folts, and I am known as Growling Bear in my frontier reenacting fellowship. When my wife, Kristin suggested I put my passion of hunting and fishing to good use, I decided to cultivate my taxidermy hobby into a true art.
My passion for hunting and fishing started at a very young age. Growing up in Ruskin, Florida, gave me the best of both worlds; fishing in Tampa Bay and hog hunting in the surrounding areas. Two things I love to do.
I have always had an interest in being a Taxidermist. When I decided to take my hobby to the next level, we researched what opportunity where available. After much thought and planning, I decided to study under Award Winning taxidermist B. Lindsey of CFTS. After concentrated instruction and hands on training, I received two different certificates.
Along with hunting, fishing, and frontier reenacting, I am also involved with the Royal Ranger program as a commander at my church. Being a taxidermist gives me an opportunity to teach the younger generation how to respect and appreciate nature. I focus on leading by example. The Royal Ranger program played a very large part in my life growing up. I believe by being a commander, I can give back to the program that helped mold me into the dedicated professional I am today.
